Gun-goat shoots shepherds in TurkeyMarch 12, 2010 SİİRT - Anatolia News Agency (Hürriyet Daily News)
In a reversal of traditional fortunes, a goat in the province of Siirt wounded two shepherds with a rifle shot this week. Whether the goat’s shot was fired in anger or just beginner’s luck remains unresolved.
According to reports Thursday, Rıdvan Okan, 20, and Muzaffer Taciman, 16, from Çavuşlu village were the victims of the goat after the animal stepped on a hunting rifle on the ground and unleashed a volley on the two tea-drinking stewards.
Just how the rifle shot managed to snare two targets was also a matter left to speculation. But it did snare both shepherds who were making tea on a campfire nearby. Villagers who heard the shot arrived at the scene and took the wounded shepherds to Pervari State Hospital. Neither shepherd was fatally injured: Okan was reportedly hit in the arm while Taciman was shot in the foot.
Media reports from the region suggested there were actually a herd of goats in the region. Speculation, however, fell on the lone gun-goat said to have stepped on the hunting rifle.
The shepherds received first aid at Pervari and were transferred to Siirt State Hospital for further treatment.
